Leslie Losey, Executive Director of Avohealth Wellness Partners suggests any of these four Nashville historic places should be on everyone’s list to visit.
As Nashville continues to blossom, it is easy to lose sight of the original landmarks and inhabitants that made the city the gem that it is today. From musicians to art, Nashville has a lot of history and many really cool places to visit that shares some of that history with visitors and locals alike. Want to learn more about Nashville’s abundant history? Here are four places that you don’t want to miss out on while you’re in the city!
Cheekwood Botanical Garden and Museum of Art- This stunning garden and the estate that sits upon it has been around since 1932. It is the estate of Mable and Leslie Cheek, whom were the original owners of this uniquely built home. The house was crafted and designed by an architect from New York, which he completed in three years. With thirty-six rooms in total, an elevator and even a hidden staircase, the estate is definitely an astonishing sight to see. Currently, there are twelve different flourishing gardens to visit on site that change seasonally, and tours are offered inside of the estate as well. Ready to discover one of Nashville’s most striking tour spots? Check out Cheekwood Botanical Garden Tuesday-Sunday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Parthenon at Centennial Park- Many people are familiar with Centennial Park, but there is much more to see at this location than just the beautiful landscape. There is actually a museum tucked away in the basement of this stunning replica of the original Greek Parthenon. From an art room featuring 63 inimitable paintings, to a 42-foot statue of a well-known Greek Goddess, this self-guided tour is one that you don’t want to miss out on. Not to mention, it is insanely cheap for the tickets to take the tour. Located just west of downtown Nashville, the museum is open to the public to tour most every day of the week before 4:30 p.m.
Violins of Hope- Nashville is home to a precious instrument from the Holocaust that tells a truly remarkable story of survival and hope. The Violins of Hope are a collection of musical instruments that hold the memories of some of the fiercest people to walk the earth: Jewish musicians who
played these instruments
while being subjected to
ghettoization, massacres,
forced expulsions and inhumane conditions in concentration camps during this horrific time period. The Nashville Symphony is home to one of the these instruments, which were featured this spring in a special community wide initiative. The organization has future plans to feature this instrument in performances and special events. In the meantime, you can learn more about the violins at
violinsofhopenashville.com. The orchestra performs concerts in a wide variety of genres at its home in Schermerhorn Symphony Center, an acoustical and architectural gem located in downtown Nashville.
Musician’s Hall of Fame and Museum- Long known as “Nashville’s Best Kept Secret”, the Musician’s Hall of Fame and Museum can be found in the historic Nashville Municipal Auditorium located in the heart of Music City. Nashville is known mostly for its country music production, but this specific site honors music and musicians of all genres. Not only does it focus on the artists, but has a display of the instruments that these artists played making some of the greatest hits in music history. The museum focuses in on teaching its guests about the true talent of the artists and more specifically, the people behind the scene of creating and producing the biggest hits that are often forgotten about. Not sold on visiting yet? The museum even has interactive exhibits where guests can do everything from learn to play drums with Ringo Star to singing some classic karaoke songs on an open stage!
