New research suggests that at least 10.8% (or 26m people) of US adults are food allergic, but nearly 19% of adults believe that they have a food allergy. Meaning, half of those who think they have Allergies-don’t.
The 5 most common food allergies reported among adults were shellfish, peanuts, milk, tree nuts and fish. Roughly half of adults with food allergies reported having a physician-diagnosed food allergy. Individuals with peanut allergy reported the highest rate of physician diagnosis.
