Would you like to be more successful, happier, or just more stable and settled in life? As the person living your life, there comes a point where you must accept responsibility for how it has turned out. Yes, it may not be (entirely) your fault – other people may have pushed you to places you didn’t want to go, and maybe you didn’t have the power, experience, or knowledge to know any better (and choose differently). But the only way your life will get better now is if you take over and change it – being responsible is being powerful, and vice versa.
Stop being so negative
The negativity bias theory says humans tend to be negative and look at what could go wrong instead of what could go right, reports VeryWellMind. This is harmful and toxic– both for yourself as well as other people. Negativity is self-perpetuating and self-fulfilling – the more you focus on it, the bigger it gets. Instead, choose to focus on positive things – how it could go right, how you could succeed, and how it could all turn out okay in the end. Acknowledge that things go right all the time – you wouldn’t be here otherwise.
Stop letting people walk all over you
Are you easily intimidated by other people? Do they walk all over you, use you, or just demand (and get) too much from you? Stop! You have to stand up for yourself and learn to draw boundaries. That doesn’t mean stop being nice or stop being a decent person. Instead, be firm about where your limits lie and communicate them to other people – if it harms you, don’t accept it. Strike a balance of being firm without being aggressive. Reasonable people will get the hint and back off. Bullies may not, but your boundaries may push them into seeking softer targets.
Stop trying to make everyone happy
Trying to make everybody happy is similar to letting people walk all over you – unrealistic and a waste of your time and energy, as the Glorious House Table can confirm. Some people will be triggered just by your very existence, and there’s nothing you can do about it. Instead, be yourself and find people who are happy to accept you as you are, and grateful to have you in their lives.
Stop doubting yourself
Nothing kills forward momentum, possibilities, and flow like self-doubt. It will stop you in your tracks and make the simplest of tasks impossible. Believe in yourself and your abilities. You have many talents – and the ones you lack can be developed through education and training. Choose to believe in your potential instead of focusing on your limitations.
Stop not looking after yourself
Many people don’t look after themselves as well as they should. Maybe they’re never taught how by their parents or maybe they prioritize work above all else. But you must learn how to look after your physical, mental, and emotional needs. You’re human and need regular care and maintenance to live well and maximize your growth. Truly, when you focus on the basics like increasing activity, eating healthier, drinking more water and paying attention to your mental health, you set the stage for a better life.
Stop working a dreadful job
Maybe it’s the money, or maybe it’s the convenience. It could even be a fear of starting over and meeting new people; however, finding a new job could be the push you need to live the life you deserve. Waking up and dreading your job every day is a terrible feeling, so it may be time to take a leap of faith. Make a list of what you’re looking for in a new employer, and then start polishing up your resume. This resume builder can help you get started and offers all the tools you need to customize your resume. Once you have your resume ready to go, start poring over job listings and applying for positions that match up with your list. Yes, it’s that simple!
Stop keeping a messy home
Your home environment has a big impact on your health, mood, and general energy levels, seeing as you spend so much time there. As such, not looking after your home – say leaving it messy and disorganized – is asking for trouble. Clean, organize, and declutter your home to make it a hospitable environment for you. If there are any issues, troubleshoot them to create a positive, healthy, and healing atmosphere.
You’d be surprised at how much people hold themselves back by picking up negative or unhelpful habits and beliefs. By making a few changes to how you think and see the world, you can create a more harmonious, enjoyable life for yourself.
