
According to an article on NPR.org, “the first prescription medication extracted from the marijuana plant is poised to land on pharmacists’ shelves this fall. Epidiolex, made from purified cannabidiol, or CBD, a compound found in the cannabis plant, is approved for two rare types of epilepsy.“
At just four years old, Sam Vogelstein was diagnosed with one of the two rare types; epilepsy with myoclonic-absences.This form of epilepsy is characterized by an abrupt unresponsiveness followed by sudden body jerks.
Now seventeen years old, Sam is the first patient to be prescribed Epidiolex. Because of his amazing success with the drug, he wants to be an epilepsy doctor with hopes of being able to subscribe Epidiolex to his patients.
