Healthy eateries are springing up all over Nashville and beyond, so we asked our writer Veronica Williams to nominate her favorites. Make sure to try any of these great spots next time you are in a bind and the drive-thru seems less than appetizing.
1) Juice Bar
Locations: Green Hills, Berry Hill, Hillsboro, Germantown, Franklin, Cool Springs, Murfreesboro and more!
Try: Sweet Greens Juice and Pad Thai Noodle Bowl
This one-stop juice bar offers delicious juices, healthy ginger shots, açaí bowls, spring rolls, and even a delicious pad thai. Their easy to-go counter makes getting a filling and delicious lunch a no hassle problem. Started by juice enthusiast John Hunt with a goal to spread their love for juicing and healthy foods. With locations all over the Middle Tennessee area, you are sure to find one nearby!
2) Rush Bowls
Location: The Gulch
Try: Beach Bowl (their signature bowl)
The Colorado franchise has made it to Nashville offering smoothie bowls filled with delicious fruits topped with granola & honey. Offering everything from a yoga bowl to an apple pie bowl, they can curb your every craves. Whether you need something healthy and filling or just a healthy sweet treat!
3) Calypso Cafe
Location: West End, East Nashville, and 100 Oaks
Try: Black Bean Loaded Nachos
Known as Nashville’s #1 healthy restaurant, this long-standing Nashville staple offers quick bites, easy to-go service, and catering. Open for over 25 years they have a simple mission “high quality, hearty, healthy food at a reasonable price with quick and friendly service.” Their array of Caribbean-inspired fare makes for a delicious mix of rotisserie chicken, Callao, black beans, and many other easy healthy options.
4) Turnip Truck
Location: The Gulch and East Nashville
Try: Curry Chicken Salad and any of their soups
Our favorite local grocery store, turnip truck has been a leader in providing all natural groceries and even some hard to find items. They don’t lack options for a quick bite! Their deli and hot bar serve delicious fresh food that changes daily even offering vegan options. Every day their hot bar focuses on different cultural flavors, Tuesdays are Indian flavors, and Fridays are for our Italian lovers. Turnip truck has some quick healthy bites everyone is sure to love!
5) Sunflower Cafe
Location: 100 Oaks
Try: Vegan BBQ
Known for their delicious veggie burger and vegan bbq, Sunflower Cafe is a favorite among Nashville’s vegetarians and vegans. They offer great vegan spins on your favorites like crab cakes, bbq, lasagna, and enchiladas. All their food is delicious and healthy and the best part of their easy line you can get your wraps, burgers, bowls, and more to go in no time!
6) Vui’s Kitchen
Location: Berry Hill, Germantown and East Nashville
Vietnamese food is finally getting its day in the sun. This delicious noodle brothy soup is what Vui’s kitchen is known for and they do it right! Started by John and Vui Hunt (the founder of Juice Bar, his wife’s Vietnamese heritage and delicious cooking inspired them to open this delicious and fresh Vietnamese cafe. “We use only whole food ingredients, loaded with fresh herbs and love. Nothing is fried and there’s no MSG—we’re simply real and really simple.” This is a great place to stop to try some delicious Pho!
7) The Wild Cow
Location: East Nashville
Try: Buffalo Tempeh Strips
Wild Cow offers delicious vegetarian cuisine that is always fresh and always yummy! Through their use of tempeh and seitan, they have veganized many favorite classes including a “Philly cheese steak” and “french quarter dip.” Beyond their delicious food, you can always find some amazing vegan baked goods from Raw Vegan Desserts. Try out the wild cow for a great dinner or easy take out with so many delicious fresh options.
